Dear Friends,

I am excited to invite you to Prism Community Arts's new show,
MADAGASIKARA: An Exhibit of Art & Culture from Madagascar' on 9-10
February at Load of Fun Gallery (120 W. North Ave) in Baltimore, Maryland.

We've been working for a couple of months now organizing this exhibition,
which will be a retrospective of sorts with a wide array of work produced
across the island over the past few years.

On the first floor of the gallery, visitors will be welcomed with
photography and music that bring Madagascar alive.  A black and white
collection compiles images of community life in the central highlands and
on the east coast.  A second series presents the portraits and sounds of
some of Madagascar's best-beloved musical icons.  Finally, a fresh set of
stunning Malagasy silk textiles from the Firaisankina Cooperative hang
alongside a new photo series which takes the spectator through the
 traditional silk weaving process.

Then its time to move upstairs for a screening of 'Voyage of the Vézo', a
short documentary about the tension between traditional practices and
marine conservation in fishing communities on the island's southern coast.
This film was made with assistance from Wildlife Conservation Society and
was used during Vézo community meetings to spark dialogue between
townspeople, local government, and NGOs.  Producer Colby Gottert will be
on hand to discuss the production and answer questions.

(Below this message is the exhibition's full schedule.)

I hope you'll be able to attend this spectacular event.  Invitations have
already been sent out to folks living on the east coast.  If you haven't
yet received your invitation and would like to attend, please be sure to
send me your full contact information so I can mail it to you right away.
Also, if you would like to receive additional invitations to hand out to
friends, please let me know and we can send you as many as you'd like.

Please also note Prism has changed our website addresses to
 www.prismcommunityarts.org and www.myspace.com/prismcommunityarts; and my
email address is now jgordon@prismcommunityarts.org .  I'll continue to
check the prism-media.org address while we make the full transition but
please make the appropriate changes for your contact lists.

Looking forward to seeing you at MADAGASIKARA!

Peace and Blessings in the New Year,
 Jack
